Continuing the Crook County News Since 1884
While the main bulk of the museum floor continues to take shape, one of Old Stoney’s doors is now open to welcome visitors. As of this week, shoppers and art lovers can enjoy the 1875 Gallery in its new home.
Featuring many of the same artists as were present in the gallery’s old building – and more every week as the stock continues to grow – you can also find gifts and souvenirs related to the history of this area in the museum gift shop area.
The fire marshal’s approval having finally been secured, you can also hear footsteps above you as Museum Director Rocky Courchaine crafts new and existing exhibits into a journey through Crook County’s past. All 7000 historical artifacts in the museum’s storage have been transported over from the old premises in the courthouse basement and the exhibits themselves are now in transit.
Courchaine hopes to have Old Stoney fully open in the new year and will invite the community to explore its new cultural center during an open house. In the meantime, he encourages anyone who would like a sneak peek to enjoy the gallery room, with its exposed original brickwork and full selection of art and gifts.
