Oct. 28, 1920
Hugh Heckinger completed a deal Saturday whereby he takes over the barber shop of Nick Taylor in Spearfish. Mr. Taylor in turn has sold the Sundance shop to Harry Burgett, who took charge this week. Mr. Burgett and family will occupy the Heckinger residence. The deal was handled by P.J. Christiansen, the real estate hustler of Sundance and Spearfish.
The open season on big game starts next Monday and continues for thirty days. Numerous and varied preparations are being made around Sundance and some early birds will bow out the first thing Monday morning. Moose and antelope are protected until 1925. No elk can be taken in Crook County but one male deer is allowed to a hunter.

Oct. 25, 1945
Fire destroyed the Kay Dungey house and barn Sunday forenoon, burning the buildings to the ground. Kay was away from home riding for cattle and Mrs. Dungey and small twins were the only ones at home. When Mrs. Dungey discovered the fire it had made such headway she was unable to check it so took the children to their grandmother, who lives nearby, and returned to save what household goods possible.

Two “Teachers of the Year” have been selected at the Sundance schools following balloting done recently by faculty members. Mrs. Jean Lakner has been named Teacher of the Tear in the Sundance junior and senior high school and Mrs. Maxine Ripley has received a similar honor in the Sundance elementary school.
Robert S. Wilcox, 31, has been appointed as a deputy sheriff here, Sheriff Henry Oudin said Tuesday.

Coach Rick Reid’s Sundance High School girls’ cross-country team won the state 2A championship in Riverton. Thirty-two girls competed in the run and Sundance had four of the top seven placers. Nicole Hutchinson placed third, Callie Hilty was fifth, Elizabeth Reid was sixth and Jessica Reid was seventh.
Mark Semlek, Moorcroft, was named to fill the vacancy on the Board of County Commissioners at a meeting on Tuesday.
Following the meeting on October 19, the commissioners agreed that a sub-committee to the Land Use Planning and Zoning Commission should be named. Those named to the committee are Sharon Kanode, Pat Clark, Gisele Robinson, Dan Boone, Roxanne Peters and Jim Brown. That committee is to meet soon to begin the task of helping with the county land use plan.
