The Sundance Lady Bulldogs had two conference matches this past week as they travelled to play the Tongue River Eagles and hosted the Wright Panthers.
Facing off against the Eagles on Friday night, the Lady Bulldogs walked away with the first two sets, winning 25-13 and 25-19. Set number three, however, gave them a little hiccup.
Going down to the final points, it was the Eagles who sealed the deal with a 25-23 victory, forcing the Bulldogs into a fourth set. While the Lady Bulldogs haven’t been pushed to four sets very often this season, they responded with a 25-20 victory over the Eagles to take the match 3-1.
Going up against the Wright Panthers on Saturday afternoon, the Bulldogs were able to walk away with another conference win. The Wright Panthers came into the first set determined to knock the Lady Bulldogs down.
Gaining momentum behind their opening servers, the Panthers went up on the Bulldogs 9-3 before a timeout was called. Hoping to get the team back on the winning track, coach Blascyzk called a timeout to get her Lady Bulldogs back on track.
Her team responded by setting up Sherri Negaard for the kill and the momentum started to shift. With hard hitting in the front and excellent coverage in the back, the Lady Bulldogs were able to take the lead and the victory in set number one, 25-17.
Set number two belonged to the Bulldogs. Jumping out to a 7-1 lead, it was the Panthers who needed to call a timeout in hopes of breaking the Bulldogs’ momentum. While the timeout did give the Bulldogs a short break, it did not slow the power behind their hits or their ability to play as a team. With that, the Lady Bulldogs took set number two with a score of 25-13.
Set number three was anyone’s game. Wright took the early lead, 4-1, but the Bulldogs were able to counter and tie the score at four before Wright took a timeout in hopes of regaining the energy in the gym.
The Lady Bulldogs however maintained their lead, behind the serving strings of Sherri Negaard and Baillee Heaster. With the score 23-20, it seemed as though the Panthers were gaining the strength needed to overtake the Bulldogs heavy hitters.
Sundance called a timeout in order to stop the Panthers comeback. Looking to close the match, the Lady Bulldogs came out of the timeout and were able to seal the deal with a 25-22 victory.
Adding two more conference wins to their record, the Lady Bulldogs now move to a 6-1 conference record and 13-2 overall. The Lady Bulldogs will play host this week as the Big Horn Lady Rams come to town on Friday and the Kaycee Buckaroos on Saturday.
The Lady Bulldogs will kick off their Homecoming matches on Friday at 2 p.m. with the JV followed by the varsity at 3 p.m.
