Continuing the Crook County News Since 1884
Janet Walkinshaw passed away peacefully at home with her family on their Sundance area ranch on September 30, 2020, after a years-long struggle with kidney disease and congestive heart failure. She was 95 years old.
Janet was born in 1925 in Iowa to Clyde and Ruth Doolitle. She and her family resided in Des Moines, where her father was a lawyer and banker.
She lived there until she attended Denver University, graduating as a registered nurse and nurse educator. She married Robert Nye in 1948, and during their ten years of marriage, had three children: Chris and Holly (of Sundance) and David (of Salem, Oregon).
She was invited to join the faculty of Casper College to organize and lead the new Department of Licensed Practical Nursing in 1958. She raised her three children as a “single mom.”
She married Robert Walkinshaw in 1976 and joined him on his Casper cattle ranch. She retired in 1983, and after her husband retired in 1985, they enjoyed several trips to Great Britain.
They purchased the Rimrock Ranch and relocated to Crook County in 1997. Janet was a talented artist, and many friends and family members are proud to own her pastels, sculptures and pencil drawings.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother and is survived by her husband, three children, two stepchildren and several grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Sundance.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel of Spearfish. Online condolences may be written at http://www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com
