Assistance program re-launches

Goshen HELP representatives visited the community last week, hosting a meet-and-greet to re-launch the program in this area. The agency’s primary purpose is to work with communities to provide solutions that can help to overcome poverty.

Included in the meeting were representatives from Crook County agencies that are actively involved with helping those in need, including the churches, Sundance Police Department and the Crook County Council of County Services.

Kyle Borger, Executive Director, explained that Goshen HELP will be administering a community services block grant for this county of $22,320 and will also have a CARES Act grant for up to $26,138 available for this community.

The agency works towards a vision of helping to end local poverty, with a mission to improve the quality of life of people in need by empowering them to become more self-sufficient.

It does this by providing help with food and finances.

“We will also partner with the Salvation Army to provide additional emergency assistance programs,” said Borger.

Where needed, Goshen HELP provides case managers to assist individuals in becoming financially independent, Borger explained. This is achieved by helping those persons figure out their budgets and work out how to either reduce their expenditures or boost their income.

“Goshen HELP will provide case management services via telephone from Torrington, Wyoming,” Borger said.

Goshen HELP has been active in Crook County in the past, Borger said, but only to a limited degree. The agency now serves six counties in Wyoming, he said, and is looking to partner with existing agencies within the communities themselves to figure out the best ways to make use of the available grant funding.
