Saturday, September 19, marked the third annual Black Hills Dairy Goat Association Show at the fairgrounds in Sundance. With participants coming from nine different states and entries just shy of 300 goats, the show is growing in numbers every year.
Youth showmanship, with around 30 participants, started at 7 a.m. on Saturday. After that, the ADGA sanctioned two-ring show under ADGA judges had goats of all ages and genders showing with only short breaks until 5 p.m.
Efficiency was the key to show 600 animals in under ten hours. Great praise was given to organizers and the wonderful facilities of the fairgrounds.
The beautiful setting, hospitality and professionalism is attracting more and more exhibitors to the show, with a steady growth of 50 more entries a year.
BHDGA founders Tanja Miller of Alpenthal’s Dairy Goats in Sundance and Frances Loehr of Dawnwind Dairy Goats in Hermosa appreciate all the support the community and the fair board has to offer. Without their family and friends, who volunteer so graciously, the show wouldn’t be possible.
