Lady Bulldogs sweep weekend volleyball contests

The Sundance Lady Bulldogs opened up their 2020 volleyball season on the road this past weekend. Going up against Lusk, Pine Bluffs and Buffalo, the Lady Bulldogs were able to walk away with victories in each match.

“Our success over the weekend makes us optimistic for a memorable season, but mostly we are thankful for the opportunity to play,” says new head coach, Chelsey Blasczyk.

Going up against the Lusk Tigers for their first matchup, the Lady Bulldogs were a dominating force on the net. Ty Holloman and Sherry Negaard led the team with eight kills each, followed closely by Brook Hofland who threw down six in the game.

The Lady Bulldogs walked away with three quick victories, 25-16, 25-13 and 25-18.

Teamwork was the name of the game for the Bulldogs as they went up against the Pine Bluffs Hornets for the next matchup. The Lady Bulldogs were all over the floor as the Hornets took the Bulldogs into four sets before falling to Sundance 25-11, 25-17, 23-25 and 25-16.

Sherry Negaard led the Bulldogs in scoring, putting up 8 aces for the night and throwing down 14 kills, while Aftyn Marchant was the defensive force to be reckoned with, coming up with 18 digs for the Lady Bulldogs.

The final match of the weekend put the Sundance Bulldogs against the Bison of Buffalo. After three very close sets it was the Lady Bulldogs who walked away with the victory, 25-22, 25-22, 25-18. Sherry Negaard again was a force to be reckoned with leading the team with 12 kills, four blocks, five digs, three aces.

“This team has a great group of senior leaders and many experienced juniors,” said coach Blasczyk, “We have huge goals and we just hope that all teams can make it through the season healthy.”

The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action for two matches this week. On Tuesday they will face the Upton Bobcats in Upton and on Friday they will host the Glenrock Herders and Douglas Bobcats.
