Continuing the Crook County News Since 1884
As Old Stoney’s new occupants prepare to move in, bringing to a successful end the years of hard work and dedication to repurpose the hundred-year-old building into a cultural center for Crook County, Museum Director Rocky Courchaine encourages the community to take advantage of two upcoming events to celebrate this moment.
The first is Old Stoney’s 97th birthday at 5 p.m. on August 21. As well as enjoying cupcakes and bottled water, attendees will be able to tour the finished building if occupancy has been granted.
The occupancy test is scheduled to take place this week and is the final barrier to allowing both occupants and guests into the building. Courchaine recommends taking advantage of this opportunity if only because it will be the one and only chance to see the finished building in its untouched, pristine state – before all the museum displays, gallery artwork and office supplies are moved in.
A week later, the annual Old Stoney Art Auction will be held outside the building from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in a tent. The evening will include an auction of works of art from a wide range of artists, with all proceeds benefiting Old Stoney and going towards the second phase of the restoration, which will rejuvenate the top floor auditorium.
Hors d’ouevres will be served to guests’ tables and an open bar will be available.
