100 Years Ago

June 2, 1920

J. Pluvius interfered to a very great extent in carrying out the Memorial Day program in Sundance Monday. The raising of the flag to the drenched breezes was of course and ever shall be a scene of majesty, and this part of the program was carried out, both in reveille and retreat. The procession in column to the cemetery was of necessity dispensed with, as was also the afternoon program at the club hall, the boys of the American Legion, holding a brief session there, however.

Alf Meeks and family are in the city today, their first visit here for years perhaps. Having sold their ranch and livestock interests, they are starting an overland trip to California and other western states, having two cars well rigged up with necessary equipment for a pleasant journey.

The Salisbury-Thompson Telephone Company presented their patrons with a new and revised directory this week. Manager H.R. Ferdinand’s efforts to keep the service up and improve it are bearing fruit, but he states the tendency of the day to nag at and restrict public utilities too closely has a retarding effect on what the service might be.

June 7, 1945

Two members of this year’s graduating class have chosen to enter the service of their country while gaining an education by entering the Cadet Nurse corps. Patsy Taylor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Taylor of Sundance, and Phyllis Johnson, daughter of Mrs. Nellie Myers of Aladdin, began their training this Monday at Black Hills Teachers college at Spearfish.

Manford M. O’Haver, son of Mr. and Mrs. George O’Haver of Sundance is now announcer and control room operator at Station KRLH at Midland, Texas. He has been living at Belle, Calif., until recently

Possibilities of a county hospital to be established in Sundance were discussed at the regular Lions club meeting this Tuesday evening. Newell Joyner presented the question. C.D. Roberts, L.G. Landers and Joyner were appointed on a committee to investigate the possibilities of such a project.

50 Years Ago

June 4, 1970

Miss Kay Cox, 18, Moorcroft, will be crowned Miss Rodeo Crook County at the Hulett rodeo June 13, the county rodeo queen committee said this week. Miss Cox, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Cox, is sponsored by Prairie Pals 4-H Club.

Officers of the Sundance Jobs Daughters, elected in May, were installed Monday night. The top five officers of the Bethel are Marilyn Schelldorf, marshal; Eleanor Oudin, senior princess; Arna Duca, honored queen; Linda Lanning junior princess; and Jill Hooper, guide.

June 8, 1995

The recent rainy weather has played havoc with Crook County roads. According to Elvin Rush, Crook County Road and Bridge Supervisor, there are 22 sites that have been damaged. Six sites have the culverts washed out and two others are so severely damaged the Wyoming National Guard has been called in to repair them. Cheryl Williams, Emergency Management Coordinator for the county, said that there are about 80 Guard members at work rebuilding a site on Oak Creek Road and another at Pine Creek on the Mona Road.
