Dems choose Biden as presidential nominee

Crook County’s choice of Joe Biden as its Democratic nomination for president was largely in line with the overall result from the Wyoming 2020 Presidential Preference Primary on Saturday.

Held entirely by write-in vote due to the current pandemic, this was also the first time the Wyoming Democratic Party had introduced ranked choice voting. All Democrats registered to vote by March 20 were mailed a ballot in three waves.

The results saw 80.7% of votes in Crook County cast for Biden compared to a state total of 72.2%. The runner-up candidate in both cases was Bernie Sanders with 19.3% of the vote in Crook County and 27.8% statewide.

Over eight rounds of voting, candidates eliminated were Michael Bloomberg, Elizabeth Warren, undeclared and Pete Buttigieg. Candidates Tom Steyer, Amy Klobuchar and Tulsi Gabbard did not receive votes in Crook County.

The eight rounds of voting saw Biden increase from 63 to 67 votes in Crook County, while Sanders increased from 10 to 16 votes.The state result saw Biden earn 10 delegates to the Democratic National Convention, while Sanders won four.

The 2020 Democratic State Convention is scheduled to take place on June 6 in Park County.
