February 11, 1920

The report so loosely made that the Sundance Hotel was under quarantine the fore part of the week proved to be utterly false. The public is entitled to know of any danger from contagious disease, but it does no good and is obviously unfair to have such reports gain currency without foundation.

T.J. Vore of Redwater stated in the city last Saturday that on that morning his boys started the disc in the field as the opening of the farming season.

The Hulett Community Association enters a protest against the county disposing of the tractor which the commissioners at the January meeting offered for sale, the protest being made on the ground that the tractor is needed for road work in the northern part of the county.

February 8, 1945

Mrs. Clarice Newman Monday took over the management of Neils café at Hulett, formerly operated by Mrs. Neil Bush.

Another youth of this county made the final sacrifice for his country it was learned this week with the notice that Pvt. Vernon Hurd of Beulah had been killed in action in Luxemburg Jan. 23, 1945. The day of his death marked only the seventh month of his service in the United States army,

50 Years Ago

February 12, 1970

The Crook County Hospital Board said Monday night that county residents must utilize Crook County Memorial Hospital more or face the possibility that the hospital be closed. Board members Bill Haptonstall and Paul Sharp, along with hospital administrator E.E. Wheeler discussed the situation during the special meeting. The board said that only 25 percent of the hospital capacity was used last year.

Ray Buckman was elected as the new president of the Sundance Rod and Gun Club at the meeting of the club Jan. 20. Other new officers are Larry Petersen, secretary – treasurer; Russell Tracy, shooting officer; Lyle Crosby, range officer; David Sipe, fishing chairman; and Don Denzin and Jim Fraser, entertainment committee.

February 9, 1995

The Devils Tower Post Office will have an open house on Tuesday to celebrate the opening of new facilities. Postmaster Rosanne Driskill said that the new office is located across the street from the old one.

At the meeting of the Crook County Historical Society, Stan Cliver reported that he has things lined up to move the Custer Trail monument from the access road to the rest stop by the Port of Entry east of Sundance.
