Deb Proctor, who grew up in what she calls “super Sundance”, was featured this year in the prestigious list of “Ten people who made a difference in our lives in 2019” curated by the Gillette News Record. For the last 30 years, the list has shined a spotlight on members of the Gillette community whose actions have made particular impact.
Proctor was nominated for her work to promote and support the YES House over the last 29 years, as well as for her service on the boards of Legacy Living and Rehabilitation Center, the Senior Center, the community garden and the library foundation.
Proctor credits the community of Sundance for instilling the values she adheres to and her parents for teaching her to give back. In the article featured in the Gillette News Record, she tells a story about calling home from the University of Wyoming; when the operator dialed the wrong number, the older man who answered the phone accepted the collect call anyway, asked her what she needed and passed the information on to her parents.
Proctor is a former school librarian and media specialist for the Gillette school district.
