Hope

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God. Psalm 43:5

1828 Noah Webster Dictionary. HOPE, noun [Latin cupio.]

A desire of some good, accompanied with at least a slight expectation of obtaining it, or a belief that it is obtainable.

HOPE differs from wish and desire in this:

That it implies some expectation of obtaining the good desired, or the possibility of possessing it.

• Hope therefore always gives pleasure or joy.

Whereas wish and want may produce or be accompanied with pain and anxiety.

Hope is a powerful force. It can pull you from the depths of despair or fuel your dreams. With hope, anything is possible. Without it, life is a dull prospect.

The current definition of Hope:

(n): A feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.

Commonly used to mean a wish: its strength is the strength of the person’s desire.

• You can see how this may be bad for us. Power, good sourced outside of God.

In the Bible: Hope is the confident expectation of what God has promised (7500 of them) and its strength is in the His faithfulness.

It is only when everything is hopeless that hope begins to be a strength.

Hope in Christ, therein lies the ability to not only to survive this life but thrive.

For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. Rom. 15:4
