January 7, 1920

The Sundance ice harvest will be practically completed this week, J.E. Haines having had charge of most of the contracts. The Sterns pond is the source of supply.

The talked of special session of the Wyoming legislature for ratification of the proposed woman suffrage amendment is still pending, but report has it that Governor Carey will probably be able to make a decision this week before leaving for the conference of governors.

Judge Ashdown and Dr. Clarenbach are the first Sundancers to purchase new light Overland cars. This cleans up Charley Sackett’s supply, but he is to receive more within a short time and says there is every indication that the car’s performance is going to win it the full sale of the factory output.

January 4, 1945

Announcement was made this week by Edwin Rounds that he had purchased the half-interest of his partner, Harry Schloredt, and is now sole owner of the Sundance Service Station. The men have been in business together for the past seventeen years.

Opened this week was a new garage and repair business in Sundance. Chester and Fred Baltzore, who came to Sundance last summer from Texas to work at the Tracy Motor, have opened their own shop in the Caulkins building one-half block north of the county library.

January 8, 1970

Kimberly Kae Holyoak, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Holyoak, Moorcroft, gained the distinction of being the first baby of 1970 born at Crook County Memorial hospital. The first baby of the new year wins the wide assortment of prizes offered by Sundance businessmen in the annual first baby of the year contest.

A nine-man squad from four area high schools has been named to meet the touring Japanese wrestling team in a special meet in Sundance Thursday night. Selected on the area high school squad are Gary Boal, Upton; Terry Goodvin, Hulett; Dan Sipe, Moorcroft; Fred Zimmerschied, Moorcroft; Frank Dorsett, Hulett; Perry Livingston, Sundance; John Tenke, Sundance; Cliff Abbott, Hulett and Jim Viergets, Sundance.

25 Years Ago

January 8, 1995

Black Hills Women in Timber announced recently the 1994 winners of the Poster and Essay Contests sponsored annually by the Spearfish-based organization. Cassie Snook, Hulett, took second place and Tanya Waugh, Hulett, took third place in the 11-14 division. The first place winner was Nichole Mayer, Custer. Brian McCollum, Hulett was one of the three third place winners in the 8-10 division.
