If you are looking to serving your community, you may be interested to know that positions have become available on two of the county’s boards. One member’s term is reaching its end on both the Crook County Fair Board and the Predatory Animal Control Board and the county commissioners are looking for volunteers to take up their seats.
The new fair board member will serve for a five-year term and will take on duties such as planning and arranging the annual county fair and approving the departmental budget. It is not necessary to know all the rules and policies of board membership before volunteering for the board, says County Clerk Linda Fritz, as there will be support in place to help you find your feet.
“They will need to take board training, which they can do online. It’s very helpful because it talks about public records, the Public Meetings Act, fiscal procedures and so on,” she says.
“All board members get a booklet from us to begin with that lists out all their duties and statutes.”
If possible, says Fritz, the county would like to round out its representation on the fair board by appointing a member who is from Sundance and the surrounding area.
“The commissioners are really trying to disperse into all the different areas, so they mentioned it would be nice to pull someone from the Sundance area,” she says.
“They would like to see someone step up from there.”
The new member of the Predatory Management District Board will represent sportsmen and hunters. The person who occupies this seat will need to fulfill certain criteria, says Fritz.
“There are specifics on that one, such as they can’t own cattle or sheep,” she says. “If you have questions on the specifics, you can get a hold of me.”
