Plans to construct a Family Dollar on the outskirts of Sundance are still underway but, as yet, there is no official date for the project to break ground.
“It’s definitely still a work in progress right now,” says James Williamson, President of Bridgewater LLC, the company responsible for construction of the store.
The concept of a “rural market prototype” style of Family Dollar in a steel building at an estimated size of 9800 square feet was introduced to the Sundance City Council back in August. At that time, Williamson presented plans for the building and announced that it will be located near the Best Western.
Williamson had hoped to break ground shortly after that time, once the building permit had been secured, with the intention to “get them open for business next year”. However, he said, the planning process is not yet complete.
“We’re still working through some of the details on the building and trying to resolve some of the contractor and pricing and all of that,” he explains.
“We’re still working through the project.”
The lack of visible progress is not, however, a sign that Family Dollar will no longer be coming to town.
“We’re still working towards it happening,” says Williamson.
“We’re getting closer to finalizing everything but it’s just taking longer to get all the subcontractors lined up down there than we had anticipated.”
