Continuing the Crook County News Since 1884
The popular “farm to table” concept urges us to eat more of the foods that are grown and raised on our doorsteps. Local kids experienced exactly that luxury on Wednesday, although it probably would better have been described as “ranch to cafeteria”.
Amy Pravecek, Sheryl Klocker and Criss Neiman, representing the Crook County CattleWomen, arrived just before the lunch bell to see the delicious hot beef sandwiches that had been prepared with locally grown meat. The beef for the program is donated by Crook County ranchers; the meat for this particular meal came from the Muleshoe Ranch, Colony.
While the CattleWomen settled down with their own trays, the kids made their way through the line, picking up beef and mashed potato, carrots and rutabaga and more for a hearty lunch on a cold fall day.
Once the kids had finished their meals, they were given the opportunity to sign a poster thanking the ranchers who have donated to the program.
