Myers selected as Interpretation and Education Program Manager of Devils Tower National Monument

Superintendent Amnesty Kochanowski announces the selection of Nickolos “Nick” Myers as Interpretation and Education Program Manager of Devils Tower National Monument. He started work on October 17.

“We are thrilled to welcome Nick to the nation’s first national monument,” Kochanowski says. “He is a strong leader and skilled communicator. Nick’s commitment to enhancing and building relationships will serve the park and community well.”

As Interpretation and Education Program Manager, Myers will oversee visitor services such as managing the visitor center and ranger programs, work closely with Devils Tower Natural History Association, provide outreach and education to area schools, further develop night sky programming and serve as the park’s public information officer.

“His desire to provide a high-quality visitor and staff experience paired with his innovative nature has already yielded positive changes,” says Kochaniwski.

Since 2014, Myers has served as lead park ranger at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in Colorado. He led efforts to obtain park certification as an International Dark Sky Park in 2015 and expanded the long running annual astronomy festival. Nick also trained interpretive staff, developed programming and managed the park visitor center during a time of dramatic increases in visitation.

“I’m so proud to be part of a team that works hard every day to protect and share this amazing resource that means so much to so many,” Myers says. “It’s an honor to be here and my family and I look forward to making northeastern Wyoming our home.”

Prior to moving to Black Canyon, Myers served as an interpretive ranger at 12 other national park sites across the country. He joined the NPS in 1999 as a volunteer at Wind Cave National Park and has also worked at nearby NPS sites Jewel Cave National Monument and Mount Rushmore National Memorial.

Myers holds a bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Parks and Leisure Services with an emphasis in Natural Resource Management from Minnesota State University. He looks forward to settling into life in the northern Black Hills with his wife, Lauren, and two cattle dogs, Gertie and June.
