Michelle Hunt has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly attacking another Hulett resident with a 2x6 piece of lumber.
On October 18, a Crook County Sheriff’s Office sergeant and deputy responded to reports of a domestic disturbance at a residence in Hulett at around 9:15 p.m. The caller was allegedly “actively being battered” by Michelle Hunt while speaking by phone to Crook County Dispatch.
Prior to the officers’ arrival, Hunt allegedly left the scene.
According to a statement from the victim, Hunt allegedly arrived at his home intoxicated and “yelled” at him for not sending her text messages. She was escorted out of the house and the door was locked.
The victim claimed that she kicked and banged on the door while yelling. A short while later, the victim looked out of the window and allegedly saw Hunt attempting to put gravel into the fuel tank on his truck.
The victim stated that he went outside to stop her, at which point she hit him with her hands, scratched him and struck him with a piece of 2x6 lumber. According to the victim, he grabbed the board and took it away from Hunt to throw it out of her reach and she then grabbed his chin and beard.
The two law enforcement officers allegedly observed injuries to the victim, including scratch marks on his chest “consistent with finger nails”, an impact mark by the border of his eye, red discoloration on his chin, a cut on his forehead and swelling of his upper left arm. The final two listed injuries were allegedly caused by the lumber.
A witness concurred with the victim’s statement, telling officers that he witnessed Hunt pulling the victim’s beard and scratching him. He also claimed to have seen Hunt kicking the door and attempting to put gravel into the truck’s gas tank.
The deputy and sergeant attempted to contact Hunt at her residence at around 11 p.m. She was allegedly observed to be on her couch with the television on, but would not answer the door or respond to verbal commands.
The next morning, attempts were again made to contact Hunt, but were again unsuccessful. A note was left on her door to call the sergeant, which she did at around 1:30 p.m.
Hunt was interviewed at her residence, where she allegedly stated she had been drinking at the bar and that she takes medication, which she should not mix with alcohol. According to court reports, she claimed to have gone to the victim’s home to speak to him about money owed and admitted to hitting him with her hands, but said she had picked up the board but not hit him with it.
Hunt was placed under arrest and charged with a felony count of aggravated assault and battery with a deadly weapon, a felony carrying a maximum penalty of ten years’ incarceration. She was also charged with misdemeanor counts of domestic battery, breach of the peace and interference with a peace officer.
