Let us encourage the initial social function of the Sundance Commercial Club by partaking of the hospitality at the Halloween party Friday night.
C.C. Ripley and son of Redwater had business in the county seat Monday. The Ripley farming operations are to proceed undaunted by the past season, evidenced by the fact that they now have a field of about 200 acres of winter wheat.
Reports from the scene of operations at the Homestake property at Lead, where a big force of men are engaged in fighting the fire in the mine, seem to indicate that the fighters are gaining ground and that the early extinguishing of the fire is at hand. Water has been pouring into the mine for a week or ten days past and is rapidly approaching the level on which the fire is burning.

November 2, 1944
1st Lt. Jerry P. Bush, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Bush of Hulett, arrived home Tuesday after seven months combat service with the Eighth Army Air Force in England. Lt. Bush, a P-51 Mustang pilot, has flown 71 missions and is wearing the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf clusters. He has two German planes to his credit.
Leonard M. Holst, 40, was killed instantly Sunday when his gun accidently discharged as he was pulling it from his pick-up. Holst, who has been county trapper for about four years, was on the Robbins sheep range about 10 miles south-west of Colony.

A public hearing on the remainder of the Sundance I-90 marginal route will be held here Dec. 4, the Wyoming Highway Department said this week. The purpose of the hearing is to give all interested persons a chance to become fully acquainted with the highway design proposals for the project and to express their views.
Sheriff Henry Oudin said Tuesday that Charles R. Bunney, a Crook County native, started work Monday as deputy sheriff. He will operate out of the sheriff’s office here.
Officers of the Sundance Television Association were re-elected Friday night during a meeting of the association. Officers are C.F. Hawken, president; Julius Hewes, vice president; and Ivan Cressman, secretary-treasurer. Cressman said the association will not seek any dues for the 1970 year. He said they plan to make a check this fall of the equipment and translator towers on Sundance Mountain.

At a special program last week at the Sundance Elementary School, local elementary teacher Jan Truchot received the Presidential Award for Excellence in science and math teaching. Jan will receive an expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. for her and her husband where she will receive the national award.
