Edwards elected Treasurer of Wyoming State Bar

The Wyoming State Bar is pleased to announce that James L. Edwards, an attorney from Gillette, Wyoming, has been elected Treasurer of its organization. Edwards has been serving on the Board of Officers & Commissioners as the Commissioner for the Sixth Judicial District since September 2013.

The 2019/2020 Election of Officers was held according to Article II, Section 1 and Article VI of the Bylaws of the Wyoming State Bar. The results of the election were announced last week in Jackson, Wyoming, at the Bar’s Annual Business Meeting.

Edwards earned a B.S. in finance from the University of Illinois in 1973 followed by a J.D. from the University of Wyoming College of Law in 1976. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army JAG Corps from 1976-1980 and retired from the U.S. Army Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Edwards has practiced law in Gillette, Wyoming, since 1980. He currently practices with the firm of Stevens, Edwards, Hallock & Carpenter, P.C. He served as a Municipal Court Judge for the City of Gillette from 1985 – 2011; served on the Wyoming State Bar’s Board of Professional Responsibility; and is a current member of the Wyoming Rules of Civil Procedure Committee, which is an appointment by the Wyoming Supreme Court.

In his capacity of Treasurer, Edwards will be a member-at-large of the Board of Officers and Commissioners and a member of the Executive Committee. The treasurer shall assist the Executive Committee in preparing the annual budget and in presenting it to the Board of Officers and Commissioners.

The treasurer shall advise the executive director and the administrative staff of the Wyoming State Bar about procedures for: (i) The methods and procedures used in the receipt, collection and safekeeping of all funds of the Wyoming State Bar; and (ii) The procedures for disbursement and audit of such funds.
