Continuing the Crook County News Since 1884
inning streak on the road last week as they travelled to Hulett to face the Lady Red Devils. A slow start to the game saw a back and forth of points and a score of 5-5 as the first timeout was called.
Searching for momentum, both teams were hoping to string some points together. Lady Bulldog Cana McInerney was the first to get the ball rolling as she was able to string together eight straight points and bring the Bulldogs to an impressive 23-12 lead. The Lady Red Devils tried to slow the scoring, but an impressive kill by Ty Holloman ended the first set in a score of 25-13.
The Lady Red Devils came on a little stronger in the second game. Facing several ties, and some tough serving by the Lady Red Devils, the Bulldogs were forced to call a timeout to get the momentum back on their side. After the Bulldogs regained the lead, the Devils evened the score for the final time at 20 before Sundance went on to win the game 25-20.
Game three saw an impressive string of serving from several of the Lady Bulldogs. Cana McInerney started the Bulldogs out with nine straight points to put them up 10-1.
It was a quick turn by the Red Devils before Bulldog Sherry Negaard added four more points to the board, increasing their lead to 15-2, and there was no looking back. The Bulldogs took the game with a 25-9 victory.
Back in action on Saturday, the Sundance Bulldogs took a convincing 3-0 win over the Tongue River Eagles at home on Saturday afternoon. Aftyn Marchant had the hot serving hand for the night as she served up six aces. Controlling the back row for the Bulldogs were Laney Dungey and Cana McInerney coming up with a combined 16 digs on the night, making it very difficult for the Eagles to score points.
In the first Wyopreps poll of the season, the Bulldogs are ranked #2, behind Pine Bluffs and just ahead of Wright. If things remain the same through the final stretch of the season, it should make for a good regional tournament as the top three teams must compete against each other in the same region.
The Lady Bulldogs will be on their home court this Friday as the take on the Newcastle Doggies for the homecoming game. They will also travel to Buffalo to compete against Powell on Saturday.
