Board Meeting – August 5, 2019

Chairman Peggy Boardman called the regular board meeting of the Crook County Fair Board to order at 5:31 pm. The Pledge of Allegiance was said.

Board members present: Peggy Boardman, Terri Johnson, Justin Gerstner, Lonny Bossman, Amy Pravecek

Employees present: Carolyn Fowler, Ken Karry

Visitors: Bobbi Butler, Austin Butler

Lonny moved to approve the agenda with the addition of superintendents, beef equipment rental, barn electrical, outdoor arena, storage shed, Terri seconded, all ayes, motion carried.

Guests: Laurie emailed info on the A-frame and dog walk for $1200. Justin moved to purchase the two pieces for $1200, Lonny seconded, all ayes, motion carried.

Terri moved to approve the minutes from the July 1, 2019 meeting, Lonny seconded, all ayes, motion carried.

Lonny gave the Treasurer’s Report.

Lonny moved to pay bills that can be paid and check with the commissioners about what is going on, Justin seconded, all ayes, motion carried.

Carolyn gave the Secretary Report. Lonny moved to replace the ruined computer, Amy seconded, all ayes, motion carried. Lonny moved to take $100 from Premiums and put it into the Beef Futurity account for next year and help pay what is owed this year, Amy seconded, all ayes, motion carried.

Ken gave the Maintenance Report. Lonny moved to replace the ripper shanks on the ground hog, Justin seconded, all ayes, motion carried.

Bobbi gave the Livestock Committee report. Livestock sale was close to $272,500.

Peggy gave the Awards Committee report.

Old Business: Lonny moved to approve the 2019-2020 budget, Justin seconded, all ayes, motion carried.

New Business:

Riding season will be October 1 to May 31.

Amy moved to put the Pig Wrestling proceeds into the Friends of Fair line item, Lonny seconded, all ayes, motion carried.

2020 fair dates will be July 25-August 2, 2020.

Fair themes will be discussed at a later meeting.

Fair Board meetings for 2020 will continue to be the first Monday of the month at 5:30 pm.

Teresa Fordyce will not be the swine superintendent. Katie Rathbun was suggested as a replacement. Austin Butler would like to be the sheep superintendent. The fair will need a new horse superintendent.

Discussion was held about having the FFA build the pedestal for the electrical in the barn used during fair.

Jim Pannell will get information on cost of the beef pens that were used.

Discussion was held about rebuilding the bucking chutes and holding pens. Lonny will get quotes and design.

Justin will be able to get the new shed at the end of August.

Lonny moved to adjourn at 7:13 pm, Justin seconded, all ayes, motion carried.

The next meeting is scheduled for September 3, 2019 at 5:30 pm.
