A new Family Dollar is set to appear on the east edge of town next summer. James Williamson, a graduate of Sundance, visited the council last week to present plans for the store as part of the process to secure the necessary permits.
Assuming the permits are obtained and the company is able to close on the land, the store will be located near the Best Western. According to Williamson, it will be a “rural market prototype” style of Family Dollar in a steel building around 98,000 square feet in size.
Williamson presented the plans for the building to the council and was directed to the Sundance Land Use Planning Commission for their approval. As the hope is to begin construction very soon, Clerk Treasurer Kathy Lenz informed him of the city’s $100 emergency approval fee, through which the board can be called in outside of their regular meeting time to review the plans.
The council also asked Karla Greaser of Trihydro, City Engineers, to review the plans for storm water drainage. The plans have been created to account for a 25-year, two-hour storm, which Greaser felt was reasonable.
Once a building permit has been secured, said Williamson, the plan is to close on the land and the hope is to break ground in the next month to “get them open for business next year”. He thanked the council for being great to work with during the planning process.
The council made a motion to allow Family Dollar to move forward contingent on approval from Land Use and in the event that Trihydro finds no problems with the storm water drainage.
