Cemetery walk at Moore Hill Cemetery

Crook County Library is hosting several cemetery walks around the county again this summer, with the next at Moore Hill Cemetery near Hulett on August 1 at 6 p.m.

Cemetery walks are a great way to learn more about the history of Crook County and share the stories of our early residents. During the course of the evening we will “visit” a number of “residents” of the cemetery, relate their biographies, and share stories or memories about them – at Moore Hill we will “meet” Kirk Stoddard, Frank Stockton, Ed Pollock, John Wesley Lawrence, Guy Davidson, Lee Nora Davis, Edward Collins, James Henry Chittim, James Chittim and more.

They represent a mixed bag of nationalities, backgrounds and professions – the baby of a local artist, another baby who died of cholera, a daughter of a Rough Rider, an auctioneer and mail carrier, farmers and ranchers and freighters, cowmen and sheepmen. Some have no descendants in Crook County; some left a legacy of ancestors who continue living here today.

The cemetery walks are open to all and free – an enjoyable way to spend a summer evening – simply meet at the cemetery at 6 p.m. Cemetery walks this summer include Mt. Moriah on July 11, Moorcroft Cemetery on July 25, Moore Hill Cemetery near Hulett on August 1 and Greenwood Cemetery off Highway 116 on August 15.
