The future thru the pasture

The Crook County Fair will be inviting the community to "See the Future Thru the Pasture" this July, with a packed schedule of events for visitors and youth to enjoy.

On July 19, enjoy Bob Burke Days at the Crook County Fair from 9 a.m. in recognition of Burke's long-time support of the fair and service as a fair board member, including the 5D barrel race, open breakaway and senior men's breakaway. The next day at 4 p.m. will be the Bob Burke Memorial Drawpot Team Roping event, which follows the Youth Rodeo beginning at 10 a.m.

If you are looking for some family fun during fair week, enjoy the music of the Kissack Family and Todd Kahler at the shade structure on July 23 at 8 p.m. The ice cream social will also welcome visitors at 3:45 p.m. on July 23 in the shade structure.

Additional kid-friendly activities during fair week will include Story Time with Miss Bonnie at 10:30 a.m. on July 24 and 25 and jump house mania and Dozer's Games from noon to 7 p.m. on the same days.

The horse show will begin on July 21 with check-in at 8 a.m. and the show itself at 10 a.m. and then 9 a.m. on July 22.

On July 23, the ranch horse competition is scheduled for 4 p.m. and the fashion revue will be held in the shade structure at 6:30 p.m. The poultry show begins at 8 a.m. on July 24, followed by dog showmanship at 2 p.m. and the swine show at 5 p.m.

On July 25, the dairy cattle and dairy goat show will take place at 8 a.m. followed by the goat and sheep show at 9 a.m. and the cat show at 3 p.m. The beef show will begin at 8 a.m. on July 26 followed by the rabbit show at 1 p.m., the wool show at 1:30 p.m., the Little People & Their Creatures Parade at 3 p.m. and the guinea pig and pocket pet show at 4:30 p.m.

The Youth Rough Stock Rodeo is scheduled for July 25 at 5:30 p.m., offering an opportunity to ride bulls and ponies and enjoy entertainment. Competitive fair-goers can also try their hand at the annual Sundance Rod & Gun Club fishing derby, with weigh-ins every day at 5 p.m. from July 25 to 27.

The annual Family Fun Night will be held on July 25, when kids can play games to compete for tokens and pick their prizes. The Crook County Commissioners will be cooking a free pancake breakfast at 6:30 a.m. on July 26.

Fair week's most popular spectator sport, the pig wrestling, will take place on July 26 at 5 p.m. An extra junior division has been added this year but slots are still expected to fill up fast – brave swine scufflers should make sure to sign up by July 17.

This year's parade is scheduled for July 27 at 10 a.m. and floats will travel down Main Street and Cleveland Street. The Crook County Rodeo Royalty Competition will be held on July 16 at 6 p.m. and the winners will be crowned after the parade at 11:30 a.m. at the arena. The Junior Livestock Sale is scheduled for 5 p.m. on July 27.

The Ranch Rodeo will take place from noon on July 27 with breast collars for first place. The next day at noon will be the team roping jackpot with trophy buckles for high point header and heeler of the day.

Kids can also take part in Sundance Police Department bike relay in the elementary parking lot at 8:30 a.m. on July 27.
