May 28, 1919

A large number of D cattle have been moving the past week from the ranch on Prairie creek to the Black Hills forest range for the summer. The herds were trailed through the south part of the city and old-timers were seized with the desire to get out awhile and “punch drags” once again.

A forest fire of considerable magnitude was reported in the Hulett country last Friday, some boys being out camping and let the fire get away from them, reaching some valuable timber.

Bert Robbins of Aladdin was in the city a short time Monday. He says it’s getting some dry in his part of the county, but he is not one who will howl before he is hurt.

June 1, 1944

Around two hundred people attended the opening of the locker plant here in Sundance Saturday it is estimated.

A hearing on a suit by the state of Wyoming, which seeks to prevent the federal government from taking over a major portion of the Jackson Hole area for use as a national monument, has been set for August 21 at Sheridan. A declaratory judgment on the constitutionality of the monument proclamation by the president is asked by the state. The state also seeks an order which would restrain the national park service from administering the area.

Mrs. Griffith Jones of the Alva country reached another milestone May 29 when she celebrated her 84th birthday. She reports she is feeling much better now than she has in several years.

May 29, 1969

Mrs. Vera Melanson was elected president of the Sundance American Legion Auxiliary when the group held its regular meeting. Other new officers are Mrs. Grace Hawken, secretary-treasurer; Mrs. Donna Allen, first vice president; and Mrs. Claire Tracy, second vice president.

An Arizona couple, Mr. and Mrs. Barry Accordino, will become the owners of the Circle S Motel on June 1 according to Ted Rounds, who sold the motel.

Anyone who wishes to run for county office in the upcoming election has just a few more days to file. Those who have filed for the position of County Commissioner are: Raymond Dennis, Perry Livingston, R.M. Mike Shepherd and Alan Roberts. Two republicans have filed for Clerk of Court: Arna Montgomery and Christina Wood. Five candidates have filed for Sheriff. They are: Robert Gean, Raymond Kaehne, Zachary Szakacs, Wayne Ludwig and David Wolfskill.
