A Minnesota man faces possession charges after a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper smelled the odor of marijuana when pulling him over for speeding. Colin Wade was arrested for possession of marijuana in both liquid and plant form.
On April 8 at around 3:20 p.m., the trooper initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling at an estimated 88 mph in an 80 mph zone near mile marker 169 on I-90.
Approaching the passenger side, the trooper reports in his affidavit that he made contact with the driver and identified him as Colin Wade. Three passengers were also present in the vehicle, including the registered owner.
The trooper allegedly immediately smelled the odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle. When he asked the group where they were heading, he reports they all said “home”, referring to Minnesota.
The trooper asked Wade to exit the vehicle and then questioned him as to how much marijuana was present in it. At first, Wade allegedly denied there being any marijuana present; however, when the trooper indicated he could smell its odor, Wade allegedly admitted there was marijuana in the center console and that it all belonged to him.
Wade was placed in the patrol vehicle, where he allegedly punched the cage until his knuckles bled; when asked why, the trooper reports that he claimed to be “extremely stressed out” by the situation. An ambulance was called to treat the injury.
Meanwhile, a Crook County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived to assist in searching the vehicle. Inside the center console, a small container was found with suspected marijuana inside.
The deputy located a grey backpack that all three passengers said belonged to Wade. The backpack allegedly contained a grinder containing 16.7 g of marijuana, a glass pipe and two separate dispensary bags.
The dispensary bags allegedly contained a variety of marijuana products of various weights, including liquid THC cartridges; honeycomb THC wax; cannabis extract and wax; liquid THC; “crispy treat” THC edibles; and various THC extracts and waxes with such names as “Hood Oil” and “Flapjax”.
Wade was placed under arrest for possession and taken to the Crook County Detention Center. He faces one felony charge of possession of marijuana in liquid form and one misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana in plant form.
