Acting Intermountain Regional Director Kate Hammond announced the selection of Amnesty Kochanowski as superintendent of Devils Tower National Monument. Kochanowski has been serving as interim superintendent at Devils Tower National Monument since July 2018. She assumes her new role effective March 17.
"We are delighted that Amnesty will be the next superintendent," Hammond said. "Her commitment to providing a safe and respectful workplace, her collaborative leadership skills and her operational experience will serve the park well."
Since 2011, Kochanowski has served as the safety, health and wellness manager for Cedar Breaks National Monument, Pipe Spring National Monument and Zion National Park. She is a graduate of two premier National Park Service (NPS) programs: Generating Organizational Advancement and Leadership Academy and the Facility Manager Leaders Program. She earned the NPS Director's Safety and Health Achievement Award in 2014.
"I am thrilled to continue supporting the dedicated staff at our nation's first national monument," Kochanowski said. "It is a tremendous honor to further the legacy of strong relationships with the local community, tribes, Devils Tower Natural History Association and partners to preserve and protect this special place. I look forward to fostering the next generation of stewards."
Prior to moving to Southern Utah, Kochanowski worked in safety and occupational health at Rocky Mountain National Park. She joined the NPS in 2001 as a Student Conservation Association volunteer at Rocky Mountain National Park and subsequently worked on NPS trail crews for 10 seasons.
During that time, Kochanowski also worked for four austral summers at the South Pole Station in Antarctica for the United States Antarctic Program. Kochanowski holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and a master's degree in risk control from the University of Wisconsin Stout.
