Fierce competition in Paper Football Championships

On January 31, the Sundance fifth grade held the fourth annual Paper Football Championships. Students competed head to head in a 35-person, single-elimination bracket, to crown the champion. In front of a capacity crowd, littered with current Hall of Famers, nerves were at an all-time high.

Each student was able to practice throughout the month in anticipation for the illustrious event. Games began with a classic game of Rock, Paper, Scissors.

The winner chose either the ball, or a desired side of the table. From there, players competed by sliding an official paper football back and forth for five minutes.

Players score points by getting the football to stop within the end-zone or field goal zone. If a player scores a touchdown, they may then try for an extra point field goal. This continues for five minutes.

The player with the most points after five minutes wins. This year, multiple players scored over 100 points, which has never happened before.

In a fun, emotional, action-packed day, there was only one winner. Keaton Lenz was able to rein supreme by eliminating his opponent in comeback fashion.

Keaton joins past winners Sheridan Schubarth, Keaton Mills and Parker Skeens to be engraved forever on the Sundance Elementary Paper Football Hall of Fame Plaque!
