Oyster Bay, N.Y., Jan. 6. - Col. Theodore Roosevelt died in his sleep early today at his home on Sagamore Hill in this village. Death is believed to have been due to rheumatism which affected his heart. The former president was up most of Sunday and retired at 11 o’clock last night. About 4 a.m. Mrs. Roosevelt, who was the only other member of the family at Oyster Bay, went to her husband’s room and found that he had died during the night.
John Guidinger and Pete Kommes were among the Beulahites taking care of business matters in the county seat Monday. John has been doing considerable riding in the black Hills for missing cattle which he grazed there the past summer. He is a sport who, while primarily interested in recovering his stock, could not avoid noting something of game conditions and regretting the very pronounced inroads made by the coyotes on the deer, even at this season and earlier.
While in the city this week O.D. Sanborn of Beulah was talking over an outline for progress to erecting a tablet for and giving an appropriate reception to Crook county’s boys, a part of the noble American army now being disbanded after victory.
Don’t fail to give the liquor industry due credit. Quite a contribution was made by South Dakota to the opening of the considerably snow-blockaded roads lately. Thirst and hunger will accomplish wonders.

One side of his machine was pretty well bent up and it was thought Blakeman suffered some cracked ribs.
