Chamber of Commerce elects new officers

After a successful Christmas season, the Sundance Chamber of Commerce will begin the year with fresh faces and new challenges. Leading the charge into 2019 will be new president Sheryl Klocker.

“I’m really glad they asked me, I wasn’t ready to not be involved with what’s going on in town,” smiles Klocker, who chose not to run for reelection this year to the Sundance City Council.

“My focus is going to be learning about the chamber and its purpose, because I have not been actively involved. What we do, how we do it, that kind of thing so I can hit the ground running in January.”

Klocker was surprised to be asked to lead the chamber by Steve and Kathy Lenz, who believe she has the skills necessary to run it successfully. She was, however, thrilled to accept the challenge and remain active in the community.

“First will be getting through the planning and culmination of WinterFest. It will be a major goal to be a part of that,” she continues.

“Myself, as a member of the chamber, I would like to become more strongly involved in the Main Street program.”

As Klocker learns the ropes, she intends to figure out if there are additional priorities and opportunities that the chamber could utilize to benefit Sundance. Meanwhile, she will continue to place focus on the events that are already proving beneficial.

“We were quite excited to see everything come together as it did,” she says of the various Christmas events. The chamber is expecting even more participation next year to build on holiday events such as Ladies Night, she adds.

Klocker is also looking forward to seeing Old Stoney open and the new Central Park come to fruition, creating a place that could potentially be used to host current and perhaps new events.

Klocker will be joined in the leadership of the chamber by Jeff Hare as vice president, Andy Miller as treasurer and Ashley Moore as secretary.
