The Sundance Trap Team went to the State Trap Tournament in June with five shooters: Dillion Haugen, Reed Banker, Brady Garoutte, Owen Watt and Teagan Marchant. State this year saw over 200 shooters from nine schools with Sundance placing seventh overall. Sundance Country Club held their annual member/guest golf tournament Aug. 7-8. The tournament was a great success with 22 men’s teams and seven women’s teams competing in two separate divisions. It was an awesome golfing event which turned into a very unusual weekend where two individuals made a hole in one. Dustin Materi made one on Sat., Aug. 7, which is an exceptional feat because that hole is a 358-yard par 4 and that is the only hole in one ever recorded on that hole. Local Sundance High School athlete, Cana McInerney, participated in the National AAU Volley Festival in Phoenix, AZ, June 30 to July 3. McInerney played for Casper Nitro. Casper Nitro is an AAU club that invited Cana to play in the spring of 2021 and played in tournaments in Wyoming and Montana. Sherry Negaard has been selected to play in the Wyoming Coaches Foundation North/South All Star Games volleyball game on July 24 for the North team. She has also been selected as All Conference and All State for 2020 and was the Northeast Player of the Year for 2020. Negaard was on the varsity roster for all four years of high school and took part in three state championships alongside her team. Recently graduated Sundance High School seniors, Wyatt Gillespie and Brad Kruger, hit the field one last time in Casper on June 12 for the annual Wyoming Shrine Bowl. Joined by the best players from across the state, the local pair played for the North Team, which jumped out to an early lead in the contest. The annual Wyoming Shrine Bowl will kick off in Casper on Saturday, giving spectators a look at Wyoming’s top football athletes from around the state. Sundance/Upton standouts Wyatt Gillespie and Brad Kruger will play on the North squad coached by Matt McFadden of Cody. There is a fun activity this Friday night, June 11 for all at the Golf Course. It’s called the Sundance 10-Man Shootout and those who have attended the last three years have loved it. You can place bets, get some food and drink, grab a cart and follow the players around the course until there are only two left on the last hole. The competition gets pretty intense but it’s all fun. Field day typically happens the last day of school and is a great way to send the students off for summer vacation. After looking at the weather report, the Parent Involvement Committee opted to host the event on Tuesday, May 25. The Sundance Bulldog track team competed in the state track meet this past weekend, crowning one state champion and bringing home All State Honors with three individuals. The Hofland sisters set out at the start of the season pushing each other to do better in each of their throwing events. The spring golf season came to a close this past weekend as the Bulldog golfers competed in the Spring Championships in Cheyenne. The first round of play put Bulldog Sheridan Schubarth four strokes behind Upton’s Brooklyn Materi but the tides turned in the second round of play and the ladies found themselves tied for top honors with a score of 178 on the course. In the final week of the regular season for track, the Bulldogs competed against eight teams at their home invitational on Friday. The Bulldogs added state qualifiers in two more events as the 1600m sprint medley, composed of Josh Pridgeon, Keaton Mills, Ryder Downey and Hunter Skeens, took first place in the competition with a qualifying time of 3:52. The Sundance golf team participated in two invites this past week as they travelled to Torrington and Upton. They also played Devils Tower last Tuesday. Sheridan Schubarth was a second place finisher for the Lady Bulldogs at the Lusk Invite, which was held in Torrington. She finished with a score of 95, just behind rival Brooklyn Materi from Upton. Travelling to Belle Fourche on Tuesday, the Hofland sisters took top honors in the disc and shot competitions as Hunter Skeens took the top spot in the 3200m race. The Sundance track and field team was in Douglas this past week. A break from the snow and rain allowed for the Bulldogs to see some competition on Friday. Two Bulldogs had performances good enough to earn them a prequalified spot in the state track and field meet. The Sundance track team was in Buffalo last week, competing in their track and field events. It was a large meet for the Bulldogs who walked away with a few top ten finishers and one pre qualifying for state.
