The weather cooperated and the golf team found their way onto the greens twice this past week, hosting the Sundance Invite on Friday and traveling to Upton to compete in the Newcastle Invite. The Sundance track and field team had two more athletes qualify for the state meet this past week as they competed in Belle Fourche and Wright. At the Northern Hills Invite in Belle Fourche, Jake Schommer qualified in the high jump with a jump of 5-10. Schommer placed third in the event. The Sundance track stars were out last Tuesday night competing under the stadium lights at the Panther Qualifier in Wright. It was another blustery day but the Bulldogs competed well. Zoe Skeens took second in the 100 meter on the girls side with a time of 13.66. Maddie Fleenor and Jaylin Mills placed fourth and fifth respectively in the discus. Despite the cold weather, spring has sprung and the track season is underway at Sundance High School. The Sundance Lady Bulldogs left Sundance with an escort last weekend as they headed to Casper College to participate in the Class 2A State Basketball Tournament. For the girls, Savannah Peterson became Sundance's first female state participant and first girl to win a match at the state tournament. The Sundance Lady Bulldogs closed out their regular season with a four-game winning streak, taking a 48-41 victory over the Tongue River Eagles. Lack of snow doesn’t seem likely to cause a problem this year as the Sundance Winter Festival gears up for a day of downtown fun. “Everything is on track, looks like we have plenty of snow,” said organizer Tony Barton last week as he delivered a final report to the Sundance City Council.
