    On the road last week, the Upton-Sundance Patriots traveled to Shoshoni to face the Cokeville Panthers. In the past, the Panthers have squashed Upton-Sundance’s chances of moving on in the playoffs, but this time it was the Patriots who took the regular season victory with a 13-6 win over Cokeville. The Panthers were first on the board, scoring in the second quarter and taking a 6-0 lead into halftime.     The Sundance Bulldogs Cross Country team competed in the Mile High Preview Meet in Lead, SD on Aug. 29. With a preview meet, runners competed in shorter distances, yet competed with top athletes in the area. Five Bulldogs competed in the men’s 4000-meter varsity race. Junior Angel Villegas finished in 12th place with a time of 15:42.63.     The Sundance Lady Bulldogs were playing with the big dogs this past weekend as they traveled to Gilette to participate in the Gillette Invite. Teams from the surrounding area, from all classes, were there to compete in this two-day tournament. Day one the Lady Bulldogs faced teams from 4A, 3A and out of state.     The Sundance Bulldogs cross country team opened their 2023 season competing in the Newcastle Invite at Mallo Camp on Friday, Aug. 25. Six Sundance runners competed in the men’s 5000-meter varsity contest. Senior Deklan Gill ran in a time of 19:50.71. Junior Angel Villegas competed in a time of 20:32.23. Juniors Holden Ayer, Kyten Johnson and Wyatt Flahaven ran in times of 23:11.86, 23:42.06 and 23:50.58, respectively.     It was a beautiful night for football as the Upton-Sundance Patriots kicked off their 2023 season in Upton against the Moorcroft Wolves. Because the Wolves opted down into the nine-man class, this matchup was played as a hybrid game in which the Moorcroft Wolves played nine-man on offense, and 11-man on defense, while the Patriots played 11-man offense and nine-man on defense.     The Sundance Lady Bulldogs opened their 2023 volleyball season competing in the Dogger Invitational in Lingle this past weekend. The Lady Bulldogs came out with a winning record, sweeping Lusk, Lingle-Ft. Laramie, and Rock River two games to none.     The Sundance golfers have made it to the halfway point of their fall season as they participated in the Keyhole and Upton Invites this past week. Consistency is key on the golf course and teammates Savanah Peterson, Karen Ulmer and Kiley Sheubrooks have consistently found themselves finishing in the top ten for the Lady Bulldogs.     Week two of the six-week fall golf season is in the books as the Sundance golf team stayed close to home, traveling to Devils Tower Golf Club and hosting an invite this past week.     The summer is coming to an end and the high school fall sports seasons have begun. The Sundance golf team teed off their fall season in Sheridan and Newcastle this past week, participating in the Kendrick and Upton Invites. Savanah Peterson started the season strong for the Lady Bulldogs, taking the top spot at both invites on the girls' side. Peterson won the Upton invite at Newcastle by 13 strokes, with a score of 97.     It was a busy week for the Sundance golfers as they competed at Devils Tower, Wright and Lusk. The Sundance girls' golf team placed first at the Wright and Lusk Invitationals.
