Northwest College has named 483 students to its fall 2023 semester honor rolls. The list of students represents 40 communities in Wyoming, 23 in Montana, as well as 15 states and 15 different countries. Students qualifying for the Vice President’s Honor Roll must complete at least 12 semester hours of college-level coursework with a minimum grade point average of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale. Four juniors have been inducted into the Sundance High School chapter of the National Honor Society this year: Angel Villegas, Holden Ayer, Savanah Peterson and Jake Schommer. Black Hills State University has released the Dean’s List for the fall 2023 semester. A total of 680 students maintained a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher while taking at least 12 credit hours. KEVN Black Hills FOX has announced its eighteenth annual Rising Star of the West Scholarship contest. This year, thanks to Monument Health, the total value of scholarships is once again at $7500. The first place winner will receive a $4000 college scholarship, with $2000 for second place, $1000 for third place and $500 for fourth place. Almost a hundred seventh graders from across the county convened in Sundance last week for a day of learning about civics. Elected officials were on hand to introduce the students to the functions of local government and the impact each office will have on their adult lives. Crook County School District (CCSD) has updated its policy for evaluating the books that are available in the school libraries. The Sundance seventh graders are on the move for the annual Watkins fundraiser. The fundraiser will run from Oct. 1 through 25. Products should be delivered by Nov. 18 unless a backorder occurs. This has been a valuable money-maker for this class for two decades. Watkins has been in business for over 150 years. As part of its philanthropic service to northeast Wyoming, the Powder River Energy (PRECorp) Foundation will manage the Rising Opportunity Student Scholarship (R.O.S.S.) program beginning with the 2024-2025 school year.
