The Harper Memorial Scholarship committee is pleased to announce the 2021-2022 scholarship recipients. The Orville D. Harper Revocable Trust and the Wanda J. Harper Revocable Trust established this scholarship fund, for which Crook County School District #1 is a beneficiary. Despite students being unable to attend Wyoming Art Symposium last year they came out on top, again. 14 artists traveled to Casper for the 53rd Annual Symposium. Sundance received 17 first place awards out of just over 2600 pieces of art. Faith Honey Anderson placed second in the Wyoming American Legion High School Oratorical Speech Contest on March 7 in Douglas. Anderson placed first in the local post #80 contest and first at the District 5 contest to earn the right to compete at the state level. U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis is now accepting applications for nominations to the U.S. military service academies for the 2022-2023 school year. For many years, Sundance art teacher Tobi Miller has had all of her 7th grade students participate in the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Unit 80 (Hulett and Sundance) poppy poster contest. On Feb. 17, the Bearlodge-Sundance FFA held a county speech competition between Sundance, Moorcroft and Hulett. In the creed competition, Aspen Jones placed first, Lindsey Fosheim placed second and Anya Moody from Hulett placed third. In the prepared speech competition, Nate Schommer placed first. Crook County is among 18 school districts across the state that posted graduation rates above 90% this year. The district falls at number 14 on the statewide list with a rate of 91.6%. Overall across the state, the Wyoming Department of Education announced last week that high school graduation rates have been improving for the last seven years.
