Abby Vander Graaff, Laramie Boomerang Via Wyoming News Exchange|Mar 24, 2022

LARAMIE — More than two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, there’s some hope that the worst of the virus is behind us. Last Monday, Gov. Mark Gordon lifted the state’s emergency declaration and case numbers have been low throughout Albany County. Despite that hope, local nurses continue to work through the strain of a nationwide staffing shortage that’s become its own emergency situation. “The COVID-19 emergency may be over, but we still have a long-term staffing emergency in Wyoming that’s going to take some long-term solutions,” said Lori Har...

CHEYENNE — Attempts were made in both chambers of the Wyoming Legislature on Friday to amend the 2023-24 biennium budget to expand Medicaid coverage to more than 20,000 residents without health insurance. Both failed. In the Senate, amendment author Sen. Cale Case, R-Lander, tried to appeal to his colleagues by sharing his own emotional experience without health care almost a decade ago. He said he lost his business in his divorce, and, with it, his health insurance. In the same year, he found out he had stage-three melanoma cancer, and the m...

  • Runoff election push returns after setback

Victoria Eavis, Casper Star-Tribune Via Wyoming News Exchange|Feb 10, 2022

CASPER —The effort to bring runoff elections to Wyoming’s primaries has been revived. Last year, a legislative committee failed to advance legislation that would institute runoff elections if no one candidate received more than 50% of the vote. On Monday, Rep. Chip Neiman, R-Hulett, filed his own bill and constitutional amendment that would do just that. If successful, the representative’s runoff election bill would go into effect in 2023 — in time for the 2024 statewide elections. The runoff bill would apply to statewide elected officials, sta...

CHEYENNE — Lawmakers are considering increasing the size of the Legislature to 62 representatives and 31 senators after discussion during a months-long redistricting process has often resulted in gridlock. For many years, the Wyoming Legislature has been made up of 30 senators and 60 representatives. But Sen. Tara Nethercott, R-Cheyenne, said during Thursday’s Joint Corporations, Elections and Political Subdivisions Interim Committee meeting that a change in size would be neither new nor profound. “Historically, the Legislature has had even...

PINEDALE — Although county and state attorneys argued veterinarian Rex F. In Sublette County’s possibly longest-running misdemeanor case, Rammell was charged on June 27, 2019, with violating the state required brand-inspection law by trailering four horses and a colt from Sweetwater County to Sublette County for summer grazing. The law is Wyoming Statute 11-21-103, which Rammell has argued as uncon...
