1 Years Ago August 7, 1924 Dan Straight saw a large rattlesnake at the Sackett Garage corner one night last week, and for a time there was considerable alarm among those who pass that way. Diligent search by several parties failed to locate the snake and it is probable that he has removed from our midst. It is reported that Fred Mann, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Mann, was the victim of an explosion in the mines at Lead, SD, where he was working and sustained broken legs and other serious...

Fair week wrapped up for another year with a finale of smiles and cheering. A busy parade made its way along Main Street in Sundance on Saturday morning with participants ranging from volunteer emergency personnel to political candidates, local business and 4-H clubs. This kicked off a day of events including a BBQ, the crowning of the rodeo royalty and, of course, the annual livestock sale. With temperatures reaching triple digits midweek, it was a hot one for all concerned, but the show went...

Among the kids caring for their animals and adults enjoying the sights, U.S. Senate hopeful Reid Rasner spent an afternoon last week soaking in the atmosphere at the Crook County Fair. Rasner was making the most of his time here, he said – not just enjoying fair, but also meeting with locals, including veterans. Stymied by road construction, he'd arrived a little later than planned. "We'll still make the most of it, I just didn't get to enjoy the ice cream social," he smiled. Crook County's f...

Crook County Medical Services District (CCMSD) has filed a counterclaim against the company that was until recently responsible for its electronic medical records system. Last month, TruBridge Inc. filed a suit in the Southern District of Alabama that claimed the district broke its contract when it ceased to use the company’s services and therefore owes just under $1 million in damages. CCMSD, on the other hand, argues that TruBridge failed to “satisfactorily perform its obligations”, which caused “significant damages” and threatened the distr...
The Secretary of State’s Office announced at the beginning of the week that the people’s initiative looking to create a property tax exemption for homeowners through a ballot measure has not gathered quite enough signatures to be valid.
