With funding now approved for the final stage of Old Stoney’s makeover, the Sundance City Council has turned its attention to the fine details of the Wyoming Business Council grant. City Attorney Mark Hughes reported at last week’s meeting that he has reviewed the paperwork and found no issue with it. However, he pointed out a couple of requirements that the council may not have been aware of, such as the need to submit periodic pay requests. He also noted that the wording of the council suggests that the city could be responsible for a pot...
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has confirmed that Campbell County has been granted a primary disaster designation, with contiguous disaster declarations for five counties, including Crook. This designation acknowledges the damages and losses that have been caused by wildfire and opens access to emergency loans to meet recovery needs. “I appreciate USDA’s recognition of the incredible impacts Wyoming agriculture producers are experiencing this year due to wildfire,” Governor Mark Gordon commented in a press release. “Fire season...
Research appears to have confirmed that, despite the concerns of a landowner, little speeding takes place on the road leading up to Sundance West. Mayor Paul Brooks shared the issue with the council last week, explaining that the resident is not pleased with the speeds he is seeing from vehicles on the Canyon Rd, which has a limit of 20 mph. However, he said, he saw little evidence of this when he inspected the road for himself, and law enforcement reached the same conclusion. Sheriff Jeff Hodge confirmed that his deputies have found that...
A speed limit on Crook County’s dirt roads is not a number that can be arbitrarily set. The county commissioners have encountered requests to regulate driver speeds in recent months and so opted to invite a specialist to walk them through the process. Austin Woody of the Wyoming Tech Transfer Center, part of the University of Wyoming College of Engineering and Applied Science, was already familiar to the commission for his work in completing a speed study on Barlow Canyon Rd. Woody provided a detailed description of the process, explaining t...

Colonel Terry Wilkerson of Sundance served in the Wyoming National Guard for 26 years. When he retired in 1990, nobody is quite sure why he was not presented with the flags of his state and nation, but it was an oversight that Adjutant General Greg Porter was keen to remedy. Porter visited Sundance last week with the United States and Wyoming flags in hand, to perform a brief but heartfelt ceremony for the man he sees as a mentor. "Serving in the Guard is twofold: we serve our state and we...
