  • Trustees question "band aid" ambulance

    Sarah Pridgeon|Dec 26, 2019

Sundance has a temporary new ambulance, leased from a Sioux Falls company as a “band aid” solution to the urgent issue of there being just one fully functioning vehicle left in the city’s fleet. However, at Thursday’s meeting of the Crook County Medical Services District Board of Trustees, it transpired that the new ambulance might not quite be what the board expected. The ambulance is a two-wheel drive Ford van, which the district is leasing for six months at a cost of $2500 per month. The board gave the go-ahead at last month’s meeting o...

  • Heaster named All State Drama

    Sarah Pridgeon|Dec 26, 2019

This year, the Sundance Theatre Troupe (a.k.a. high school drama class) brought a number of acting and technical events to the Wyoming State Thespian Festival held at the University of Wyoming. Our acting events included both novice and varsity monologues and duets and the one-act proscenium (or traditional stage) play “Imperfect Proposal” by Lisa Parry. In the technical theatre department, we had a talented makeup artist and script writers galore. For a small 2A school, Sundance fared qui...

  • The three real Santas

    Dec 26, 2019

A steady stream of customers were still coming through the door of Sundance Post Office to pick up their Christmas packages as the week began. Angela Donner, Alissa Truax and Postmaster Heather Miller continued to whittle away at the piles on Monday morning, handing over boxes large and small. Now online shopping has become a common method for finding the perfect gift, the post office disappears under a sea of boxes throughout the month of December. This year, says Miller, the Sundance office broke its own record in early December when 643...

  • Architect hired for Hulett Clinic

    Sarah Pridgeon|Dec 26, 2019

The Crook County Medical Foundation has hired an architect to design the new Hulett Clinic and will be starting the process with a clean slate, reported Judy Hutchinson to the Crook County Medical Services District Board of Trustees last week. The foundation chose an architect from Cheyenne, Hutchinson said. The alternative bid was from a Billings firm but there was “quite a bit of difference in price”, she said, explaining that this was partly to do with the breadth of services offered. “We are ready to begin planning,” Hutchinson continu...

  • City proposes rental charge for ambulance building

    Sarah Pridgeon|Dec 26, 2019

Though the Sundance City Council and Crook County Medical District Board of Trustees previously appeared to have come to an amicable decision regarding the city’s ambulances, Council Member Joe Wilson approached the board on Thursday with a financial matter that still needs to be settled. Specifically, he proposed a rent agreement for the building in which the ambulances will continue to be housed. When asked at the beginning of December, the council agreed that the district may still keep its emergency vehicles in the city building, but no m...

  • A year of hard work pays off

    Mike Enzi, U.S. Senator|Dec 26, 2019

The story of our country is often told by the decades that define it. With the end of this decade so close at hand, it can often be tempting to imagine what the last ten years will be remembered for. Or for that matter, the last year alone. For me, 2019 will be remembered by the people I had the pleasure to meet, businesses I had the opportunity to visit and the projects I have had the privilege to work on. Between spending time in our nation’s capital and back home in Wyoming, I’ve been able to meet with hundreds of workers and families fro...

  • This Side of the Pond

    Sarah Pridgeon|Dec 26, 2019

As has become my tradition, I took a few moments this week to look around at all the good things happening this season. Whether it made me laugh or smile, I’d like to share a few of them with you. You have to hand it to Mariah Carey, that’s a woman with a dream she’s not willing to let go of. I think my grandmother would have referred to her as “like a dog with a bone”. A quarter century after we all started singing “All I Want For Christmas” as part of our communal festive repertoire, s...

On April 2, a Crook County Sheriff’s Office deputy executed a search warrant at a Sundance residence after receiving information about narcotic use and sales on the premises while children were present. On entering the building, the deputy reports he was able to confirm the presence of children and saw a bong on the kitchen table a...

Camille Erickson, Casper Star-Tribune Via Wyoming News Exchange|Dec 26, 2019

CASPER — President Donald Trump signed a $1.4 trillion appropriations package Friday night, averting a government shutdown and saving health care for hundreds of retired coal miners in Kemmerer. Coal has been the critical economic building block for the southwest Wyoming community, where miners have labored at the open pit coal mine in Lincoln County for decades. They’ve contributed millions of tons of thermal coal to the nation’s electricity supply. For many miners, working at the Kemmerer mine was the only livelihood they ever knew. But l...

Jonathan Gallardo, Gillette News Record Via Wyoming News Exchange|Dec 26, 2019

GILLETTE — It was a cold December morning, and Cody Nehl stood in a lot off of Little Powder River Road, waiting for a customer. A large pile of stoker coal was stored in the back of a truck, ready to be sold. After a few minutes, another truck pulled up and drove onto a scale. Nehl powered up a conveyor belt, which transported the coal and dumped it into the bed of the truck. The coal would be used to heat someone’s house and shop north of town. That day, Nehl, operations manager for GMHR LLC in Gillette, completed his first sale of sto...

The Sundance boys’ basketball team made history this past weekend as they swept all the teams competing in the Stateline Shootout. The boys opened up play in Sundance on Thursday night, facing off against the Newcastle Dogies. The Dogies came out strong in the first quarter, behind their full court pressure and hot hand, Dylon Tidyman, who scored the first six unanswered points of the game.
