Downtown Sundance was awash with lights and colors on Friday evening as a crowd of Christmas revelers lined the streets to watch the decorated floats go by. Cook Lake Recreation Area is set to get a makeover this summer in the form of a complete reconstruction of its dam. Now six decades old, the dam and spillway are showing signs of wear and tear and will be replaced to stop the leakage and improve the overall site. “The existing dam is leaking a lot. Two candidates have already put their names forward to fill the open seat on the Sundance City Council and residents who are interested in serving have until the end of the year to submit their applications. Judy Ellen Grof, 68, of Idaho Falls, passed away November 28, 2018, at her home. Judy was born June 28, 1950, in Sundance, Wyoming, to Straitor and Elaine Clark. She attended Sundance High School and Black Hills State College. Judy was a member of the Episcopal Church, Jobs Daughters and Eastern Star. Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) wants the public to be aware that it has recently been notified of a phone call scam circulating in this region. The scammers are contacting people to state that a relative has been involved in a motor vehicle crash and arrested for driving under the influence. Victims are then told that the relative is in need of cash for bail and attorney fees. David Larson of Gillette has received a fine and suspended sentence for a fourth charge driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested after speeding past a patrol vehicle on the interstate. On the evening of March 9, a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper patrolling I-90 observed a Mini Cooper bearing a South Dakota license plate coming up behind him. During the month of November the Pantry received approximately 690 pounds of donated food, and provided assistance to over 111 people. This included eight new clients, 44 youth under the age of 18, and 33 persons over the age of 60. We also shared food with the Blessings in a Backpack programs in Hulett, Moorcroft and Sundance, and assisted the Moorcroft Interfaith Community with Thanksgiving Baskets and dinner. Governor Matt Mead’s final budget recommendations place an emphasis on higher education, local governments, state employees and public infrastructure. The supplemental budget recommends expenditure of approximately 1.5 percent of the increased revenue identified by the CREG in October – totaling $148 million in general fund.
