Now in its sixth year, the Sundance Beer Festival is a popular part of the city’s roster of annual events and festivals. According to organizer Reggie Gaylord, it’s still growing both in attendance and number of vendors, so beer lovers can expect another fun evening of hop-fuelled revelry on September 7. “After six years, it has finally got its legs – and it’s crazy to think it’s been six years. We’ve had a lot of great attendance,” he smiles. “We will probably sell close to 500 glasses, and the amount of people who attend has grown, which...

1 Years Ago The Times August 27, 1919 The ball games between marrieds and singles of Sundance now stand fifty-fifty and the final and decisive combat will come off at the south side sand lot next Friday. Wilbur Goodson recently purchased about 70 head of hogs from Clint Wells and others of Sunny Divide and added to something near a like number which he already had, he expects to have a shipment within a couple of months rarely if ever exceeded by an individual of Crook county. As we go to press it is learned there is a proposition on foot wit...
Talking about a sensitive topic is difficult; looking for ways to solve that problem is often a whole lot harder. We would like to commend both the Crook County School District and the concerned parents who have brought the issue of youth suicide to the fore and thank them for looking for ways to lower the alarming rates we have been seeing in this region. As Jess Donnell said at the school board meeting last week, staying quiet about the issue doesn’t seem to be helping. There has always been an unspoken belief that we shouldn’t talk abo...
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Is. 6:1 I spy a sadness in the land. One that if not comprehended and dealt with will cripple humanity. It is a real sullenness, masquerading as pleasure while hollowing out the soul and leaving us with nothing tangible to hold or hope for. The attack is personal, extreme and tends to grip our lives without providing any chance for escape. I also know a God who sees the sadness and only He has the permanent...
It didn’t make it into the Peek at the Past, but we came across an interesting tidbit in the archives that certainly piqued my interest. It comes from an issue published a century ago and reads as follows: “The visit of the Prince of Wales to the United States is making quite a stir. For fear some of us won’t get to meet him, his name is partly given as Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David Wettin. He has some thirty odd titles, too, but the best title he might have is missi...
UW raises ACT score requirement LARAMIE (WNE) — The University of Wyoming’s board of trustees voted this month, at the request of university administrators, to set a minimum ACT score of 17 for students to be admitted to the school. Previously, high school graduates could be assured admission to UW, albeit with some remedial classes, if they had a cumulative grade-point average of 2.5-2.99. No standardized test score was required. However, that new policy will still require those students with a sub-3.0 GPA to have a GPA of at least 17 or an...
