  • Peek at the Past

    Jul 27, 2023

1 Years Ago August 2, 1923 While coming up the Spearfish road last week J.W. Zane discovered a white grouse in a covey on Cow Creek. The stranger appeared perfectly at home with his brown brothers and sisters and was about half grown. Sundance had a real flood scare last Wednesday night when a cloudburst close in raised both branches of Sundance Creek. The stream was the highest in many years but the damage was nominal, confined to a few gardens and chicken houses. There were ten cars at the tourist camp ground and these were all moved out bu...

  • Stay safe in the summer sun

    Sarah Pridgeon|Jul 27, 2023

Summer took its time arriving this year but, once it did get here, the temperatures soared seemingly overnight. While the forecast still shows a few potential storms on the horizon, the hot weather appears to be sticking around for now. With that in mind, and with a “heat dome” covering part of the nation recently and heatwaves across the world, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has issued guidance on how to spot heat-related illness and how to prevent them from occurring. More than 700 people die from extreme heat each year in the United S...

Wyoming Medicaid offers three waiver programs with rules and practices that differ from traditional Medicaid: Community Choic...

  • Letter to the Editor

    Jul 27, 2023

Dear Editor: In the sprawling wilderness of Wyoming’s political landscape, the Wyoming Freedom Caucus stands as a daring posse. This small band of audacious conservatives is a persistent burr under the polished saddles of grandstanding Speaker Albert Sommers and his henchman, Rep. Barry Crago. As of my penning this, a dozen legislators claim allegiance to the Caucus on their website. Yet some prefer the cloak of anonymity, a shield against Sommer’s swift retribution. There is speculation that public Caucus members have fewer committee ass...

  • 70th Class Reunion

    Shirley Clark Andersen|Jul 27, 2023

We, the class of '53, donned our bifocals, hearing aids and Depends and headed over for Uncle Louie's café. We drove fast before we forgot where we were going. We couldn't remember keeping Old Stoney company but it didn't matter 'cause we couldn't hear each other anyway. We yelled at the waitress to wait on us but she said she'd already served us our prune juice. Shirley was just her usual brain-dead self, Evelyn said she'd forgotten her meds. Jeanie was late 'cause her pet sheep were lambing....
