Just in time to welcome the kids and their animals, the Crook County fairgrounds are ready to unveil a new look. Saturday saw the third annual Lakeview Show and Shine Car Show open with a bang with 50 entries in the first hour and more coming in as fast as they could be registered. Ultimately, there were 54 entered in the competition and 40 just for fun, coming from all over the county including several from Hulett, Moorcroft and Sundance. Occasional downpours may have punctuated the last couple of weeks, but Crook County is not out of the woods when it comes to drought. In fact, the situation has continued to worsen, with approximately one third of the county now listed as under extreme drought. Rodeo Royalty This weekend Moorcroft hosted the competition to name this year’s Crook County Rodeo Royalty. The girls rode Friday evening, showing their saddle and reining skills as well as the requisite wave before stepping to the ground to listen as the judge critiqued their work. Local Sundance High School athlete, Cana McInerney, participated in the National AAU Volley Festival in Phoenix, AZ, June 30 to July 3. McInerney played for Casper Nitro. Casper Nitro is an AAU club that invited Cana to play in the spring of 2021 and played in tournaments in Wyoming and Montana. A case of COVID-19 involving the Delta variant has now been officially recorded in Crook County during a time when the number of new infections within this community remains steady, but still relatively low. Two California men face felony charges related to possession of THC, marijuana and meth after their van was searched following a traffic stop and a wide range of controlled substances were discovered scattered throughout the vehicle. WYDOT is warning residents of a possible phishing scam that involves driver’s licenses and has issued a statement to inform Wyomingites that no message sent by the department will ever ask for your personal information. Crook County resident Nancy Hawken has been sentenced to between five and seven years for a felony charge of driving while under the influence, fifth offense, after her vehicle was found in a ditch. On the evening of December 15, 2020, a Wyoming Highway Patrol was advised of a vehicle that had slid off the road with a possibly intoxicated driver.
