    Sarah Pridgeon|Jul 15, 2021

At the suggestion of a concerned resident, the City of Sundance is looking into the possibility of putting together a group of volunteers to clear out the creek as it flows towards Sundance Pond. The creek is in need of attention because the water is running slow due to the trash and debris caught in the channel, Joann Safford told the council last week. Safford suggested that three or four work groups could be put together, consisting of volunteers from the community. These groups could then go out and recon the creek to see what needs to be...

  • Relief funds arrive early

    Sarah Pridgeon|Jul 15, 2021

A budget amendment was a necessary element of housekeeping for the Sundance City Council last week after the first installment of the city’s American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds arrived a little earlier than expected. The city had been expecting to receive approximately $200,000 in direct distribution from the most recent round of federal stimulus money, split into two parts over two years. However, though the first sum was anticipated in July, the first month of the new fiscal year, the $112,000 installment actually arrived in June. As for how it...

  • We must reject the dirty tricks and return to pragmatism

Editorial from the Casper Star-Tribune, July 11 Via Wyoming News Exchange|Jul 15, 2021

For a long time, the Wyoming Legislature had a reputation for pragmatism. The lawmakers who inhabited it tended to be largely conservative, but they focused more on solving practical issues and less on fighting ideological battles that have little actual impact in Wyoming. Yes, there were always a few who sought to push polarizing bills that weren’t needed — a Casper lawmaker sought a ban on sharia law some years back — but leadership usually batted down such time wasters. That’s changed over the past few years. The Legislature has pulled...

  • This Side of the Pond

    Sarah Pridgeon|Jul 15, 2021

To support England’s national soccer team has always been a harrowing commitment to stress, dashed hopes and heartbreak, over and over again…but not any more. On Sunday, we came a single kick from winning the UEFA European Championship (better known as the Euros) for the very first time. We lost, it’s true, but I’d like to explain why that isn’t really the point. To do that, I must rewind to the old days, when we were notorious for having all the talent in the world and failing to live up t...
