With the blessing of the state, family members will once again be able to visit their loved ones at the long term care facility within Crook County Memorial Hospital. However, those who would like to spend time with a resident should be aware that guidelines have been put in place to continue protecting the health and safety of some of the county’s most vulnerable people. “We understand how difficult it is to have these restrictions,” says Jamason Schmidt, nursing home director. “With our pop...

  • CARES Act funding in question

    Sarah Pridgeon|Jul 2, 2020

Whether CARES Act funding can be used to fund a new hospital and clinic in Crook County has been thrown into question. According to representatives from Crook County Medical Services District, it is now believed that the $1.25 billion directed to Wyoming cannot be used for capital construction – which means it cannot be applied to the cost of two new buildings. “We found out that the COVID-19 CARES fund will not help with any costs so we have cut back on some expenses we had originally included,” reported Judy Hutchinson, chairman of the hospit...

    Sarah Pridgeon|Jul 2, 2020

Governor Mark Gordon announced on Monday that the health orders currently in place will be extended until July 15. “It is clear from the recent increase in cases statewide that the dual threat of COVID-19 to both the health of our citizens and the health of our economy is not going away,” Gordon said in a press release. “No one wants to see the progress we have made vanis... Full story

    Sarah Pridgeon|Jul 2, 2020

It was the general consensus of the board and management, however, that keeping wages competitive is vital to ensure the ongoing health of the district. Neiman opened the conversation by pointing to pending budget cuts at the city, county and state levels. When it comes to CCMSD, she said, “Yes, the finan...

  • This Side of the Pond

    Sarah Pridgeon|Jul 2, 2020

I don’t necessarily want to hear movie stars sing me a song of solidarity in times of trouble, or take life advice from pop idols who have long since lost touch with reality, but I do believe fame provides a platform. And if they are happy to reap the rewards of stardom, I’d like to think there’s a moral imperative for these famous folk to return that favor to the people who put them on their pedestals. That goes as much for the stars who got where they are through talent as it does for the ones...

  • Peek at the Past

    Jul 2, 2020

1 Years Ago June 30, 1920 Mr. and Mrs. Will Vines went to Spearfish Sunday to attend the funeral of little Harry Sleep, aged six years, who was almost instantly killed Thursday. The boy ran too close to a bunch of horses in the pasture, when one kicked up playfully and struck him in the stomach. In digging a well on this place south of Gillette John W. Moore says he went through a vein of coal 55 feet thick. One of his neighbors drilled a well 225 feet deep and the last 65 feet went into a vein of coal and he is not through it yet as the...
