Future discussions over the contract between Crook County Medical Services District (CCMSD) and Health Management Services (HMS) will take place in the public eye, said the Board of Trustees last week. After hearing concerns from numerous members of the community, both at Thursday’s meeting and beforehand, the board pledged to continue negotiations without going into executive session. This promise was honored immediately, providing an opportunity for board members to air their thoughts regarding HMS’s performance. It also gave HMS, mem...

  • Only for the brave

    Sarah Pridgeon|Mar 5, 2020

The waters of Keyhole Reservoir are only for the truly brave at this time of year – but that’s exactly why the annual Jackalope Jump is not only a popular event for spectators and jumpers alike, but also an excellent opportunity to raise funds for Special Olympics Wyoming. The concept is simple: teams of participants will leap from the marina into the freezing waters of the lake, earning money for the cause in the process. The only difficult part is mustering the bravery to take that icy plunge. “The Jackalope Jump is a unique opportunity for i...

The virus was first identified in Wuhan, China in late 2019 and has now appeared in numerous countries across the world, including the United States. According to WDH, it is not yet known how easily the disease spreads and how many people will experience severe illness. However, the symptoms reported are familia... Full story

The event was caused, according to the National Weather Service, by an elongated area of low...

By Bailey Hofland Editor’s note: Sundance FCCLA members have been spending time with the elderly within the community, including at the Crook County Long Term Care facility. As part of their time together, FCCLA members have interviewed residents and created biographies to honor them and their lives. These are their stories. Marlene was born on Monday November 13, at her home in Nebraska. She was born a twin and she remembers her parents telling her that she was the first one born. She remembers hearing from her parents that the doctor came i...

  • Letter to the Editor

    Mar 5, 2020

Dear Editor: The Sundance Times reported that the Board of Trustees of Crook County Medical Services District is considering not renewing its contract with Health Management Services (HMS) unless HMS “get[s] rid of [CEO Nathan] Hough.” (February 20, 2020, Page 1, “Job Posting reveals CCMSD CEO change”) I believe that it is important the Board should renew its contract with HMS and should keep Mr. Hough as the CEO of the county medical services. I have lived in Crook County for 45 years and have seen many different options for managem...

  • Legislative Update

Tyler Lindholm, Representative, House District 1|Mar 5, 2020

Greetings Crook County, I’m happy to report that we are going into the fourth week of session. This past week, the Wyoming Legislature worked hard (and late) to give fair consideration and debate to as many bills as possible. Thursday was “crossover,” meaning that any bill that had not been passed out of their chamber of origin by then would not be further considered. One of the bright spots of the week was having two of my children serve as pages on the House floor. As I’ve mentioned before,...

  • Our View:

    TIMES STAFF|Mar 5, 2020

We would like to commend everyone who has been involved over the last couple of weeks in taking steps towards righting the ship at Crook County Medical Services District. We applaud and offer thanks to our trustees, who listened to the concerns of the community and put the brakes on what could have become a crisis situation. We understand it’s not easy to have difficult conversations in the open, especially when you know how deeply feelings run within the community, but you had the courage to do so. Thank you for your willingness to allow m...

  • This Side of the Pond

    Sarah Pridgeon|Mar 5, 2020

Two columns about tea in two weeks – this will be a record, even for me, but it’s a story that needs to be shared. Last week, having done nothing at all to anyone except to exist in the first place, a brand of British teabags managed to get itself in hot water (but not the good kind from a kettle). The storm in a teacup began with an innocent photograph. Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak shared a picture in which he stood next to a giant bag of Yorkshire Tea™ and a selection of mugs....
