As Moorcroft attends the final aspects of their landfill closure, Sundance Councilman Joe Wilson came to call during the regular town council meeting last week, joined by Crook County Commissioners Fred Devish, Bob Latham and Kelly Dennis. The topic? Revisiting the possibility of a solid waste district. “I spent a lot of time with former Mayor [Dick] Claar, talking about possibly forming a trash district a handful of years ago, with your landfill,” said Wilson. “It’s been brought out again with the fact that you are looking at the cease a...

The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) plans to move forward with the permitting process for a new bentonite mine a couple of miles outside of Pine Haven with a public hearing to consider objections from citizens regarding its potential impact on air quality. This meeting was set to take place in February but, due to inclement weather, was rescheduled. The 317-acre operation, named the Keyhole State Project, is under the auspices of parent company Black Hills Bentonite LLC, which is, in turn, leasing said site from the State of...

"My dad and my uncle built it for my uncle's retirement out of the service back...

The choices included an interior overhaul, bringing several operational facets, including emergency and administration, up to a higher standard at an anticipated cost of between $23 and $26 million. Grace Moore|Feb 11, 2021

Mayor Dick Claar of Moorcroft has expressed his disappointment in the decision to appoint a committee because it’s a repeat of the failed previous attempt to find a countywide solution to the trash problem. In response, the Moorcroft council has decided to explore the possibility of going it alone and will be investigating potential funding avenues over the next couple of months. “I don’t know what they’re looking for because they had a joint powers board and they met for two years without any decision made and now they’re back to [a committee...

The latest move in the ongoing and often complicated discussion of Sundance’s ambulance service, Crook County Medical Services District is now sourcing new ambulances for the Sundance ambulance service, with the intention of leasing to buy. The concept would see the district pay for each new vehicle over four to five years and then trade that it in when it comes time to upgrade. “Ideally, so we don’t keep repeating history, where we have 20-year-old vehicles…we’d take a four or five year lease or purchase and, at the end of five years, it...
