Velma Lou Stuyvesant 93, died peacefully on November 1, 2013 at St Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado, surrounded by family. Velma Lou was born on December 1, 1919 in Crosby, Texas to James Claude Cloud and Amy Bullock Cloud.
Velma Lou was preceded in death by her husband George Rile Stuyvesant of California, her brother Eldon Claude Cloud of Baytown, Texas and her son-in-law John Powell of Sundance, Wyoming.
She is survived by her daughter Deborah Jo Powell of Sundance, WY, three grandchildren: Lisa Corley of Sundance, David Burt of Baytown, TX and Michael Burt of Mont Belvieu, TX. She had eight great-grandchildren: Caitlin and Brooklyn Corley of Sundance, Brian and David Burt of Baytown, Paxton and Fallon Burt of Mont Belvieu, and Daniel and Emily Quinn of Mississippi. Four generations were present at the hospital.
Velma Lou was known for her warm smile and positive attitude. She never complained and was always happy to see you. She never met a stranger and had a love for everyone. The family extends their gratitude to The Willows Assisted Living facility where she was a resident for many years and where she had many friends who will miss her.
In her younger years she was a singer who traveled with her husband who was a professional musician. They performed in Las Vegas with all the big name bands.
She will be remembered with love.
She will be laid to rest in Aladdin, Wyoming at the family cemetery.
